Product Review: Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil

This is a non sponsored, REAL, AMAZING, glowing review of the only product that moisturizes my hair: Shea Moisture, Jamaican Black Castor Oil.
I’ve been natural for about 9 years now but don’t get me wrong, I will take a flat iron to it when I get the itch! One thing I’ve always struggled with is keeping my locks moisturized when I wear it curly. Until one day, I just so happened to be product shopping in Walmart and came across this golden product. I’m not a product loyalist(until now probably) so I always like to try out different things and test out the chemistry with my hair. This trip, I just so happened to buy the Strengthen Grow & Restore Treatment Masque and Leave-In Conditioner because, like most natural girl, I never run out of shampoo.

When I say everything, that’s exactly what I mean! But how? Why? I had so many questions! Castor oil, made from castor beans, has been used forever and was traditionally used by people in Africa for hair and skin. Jamaican black castor oil is said to be more potent than the more common yellow type. One ingredient called ricinoleic acid has anti fungal and anti inflammatory properties, making it a perfect choice to treat the scalp.

I’ve never been able to detangle my locks without a clump of it coming out in the shower…until I used this. After leaving the Strengthen Grow & Restore Treatment Masque on for a few minutes, I used a wide tooth comb to work it through and it glided to the ends with ease.

My hair has never been so silky to the touch even before I put the leave in conditioner in and I didn’t even shampoo it first! I continued with the Wash and Go method I usually use and it still felt moisturized for days after. And just to make sure it wasn’t a one-time fluke, the next time I washed my hair, I got the same results!

Now while I haven’t used the masque on my little one’s hair(for fear of it being too strong for her) but I have used the Leave in conditioner and it leaves her little tresses nice and bouncy during a rough and tough play day at daycare. I just put in on after spritzing some plain water on her hair and before pulling through some oil moisturizer.
My next step is trying the entire Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil line including the styling lotion, hair serum, and shampoo. If you haven’t already, don’t walk, RUN to go pick these products up!
